In a recent court ruling, pop star Katy Perry emerged victorious in a legal battle against an 84-year-old Army veteran over the purchase of a $15 million home.
The judge ruled in favor of Perry’s business manager, Bernie Gudvi, stating that he is entitled to the sale of the Montecito home that was purchased on Perry’s behalf in 2020.

The lawsuit was filed by Carl Westcott, the founder of 1-800-Flowers, who alleged that he lacked the capacity to sign the transaction due to a recent surgery and brain disorder.
Westcott sought a recission of contract, a cancellation of contract, and declaratory relief. However, Judge Joseph Lipner ruled that Westcott failed to present any convincing evidence to support his claim.
The trial was split into two parts, with the damages phase set to take place in February. Perry will testify during the next phase, where she will address the claim that she lost out on years of rental income due to the litigation.
Carl’s son, Chart, expressed disappointment with the judge’s ruling and stated that he hopes Katy Perry will be confronted with possible sanctions for perjury.
Perry’s attorney, on the other hand, stated that the judge’s decision clearly shows that Westcott was of sound mind when he engaged in the negotiations for the property sale.
Judge Lipner explained that the court did not find Westcott’s psychiatrist expert credible.
He stated that significant evidence showed Westcott’s capacity to enter into the contract, including testimony from witnesses who interacted with him during the negotiation process, his coherent written communications, and medical reports from his doctors.
