Apple is reportedly set to overhaul the Apple TV app. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company plans to consolidate its video offerings and place them exclusively in the TV app on all its devices.
The new version of the app is expected to be launched around December as part of an upcoming tvOS software update.

The move will involve removing the dedicated Movies and TV Shows apps from the Apple TV set-top box’s interface, as well as eliminating video-related sections from the iTunes app on iOS and iPadOS.
This change is more about streamlining and removing redundancies rather than altering any core features, as the TV app already offers the functionality of renting and buying digital video content.
The updated app will feature a left-side panel for video categories, similar to what is found on Netflix and other streaming rivals.
Apple’s TV app consolidates video content from the Apple TV subscription service, rented and purchased movies, live sports networks, and compatible third-party services like Amazon Prime, Paramount, and Starz.
Apple has been increasingly investing in video content, spending billions on programming such as Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. The company’s original series on Apple TV include Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Foundation, among others.
However, Apple recently canceled The Problem with Jon Stewart following disagreements about the planned editorial content surrounding AI and China.
In other Apple news, the company has sent out invites for an event on October 30. The “Scary Fast” streaming event is expected to focus on new Macs, possibly including a refresh of the iMac line and MacBook Pro running on a new M3 chip.
