Monday’s allegations were confirmed when Meta stated at its Connect event on Wednesday that it will launch a line of digital personas based on the company’s newly unveiled Meta AI chatbot technology. What possibly could go wrong?
Meta AI is a new generation AI assistant that will be available across the company’s many assets, including WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram (and will be available soon on the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3).

Natural language prompts will allow the user to communicate with it. The AI is based on a bespoke model derived from Meta’s LLaMA 2 LLM and will use Microsoft Bing to retrieve real-time information from the web.
Furthermore, the company is releasing 28 (!!!) chatbot “characters” designed to satisfy specific niche interests, such as sports, media, or genre preferences. These characters will be voiced by a range of modern influencers and celebrities, including:

6. LaurDIY as Dylan, Quirky DIY and Craft expert and companion for Gen Z
7. MrBeast as Zach, The big brother who will roast you — because he cares
8. Naomi Osaka as Tamika, Anime-obsessed Sailor Senshi in training
9. Paris Hilton as Amber, Detective partner for solving whodunnits
10. Raven Ross as Angie, Workout class queen who balances fitness with meditation
11. Roy Choi as Max, Seasoned sous chef for culinary tips and tricks
12. Sam Kerr as Sally, Free-spirited friend who’ll tell you when to take a deep breath

The first set of personalities will be available to US customers today, with additional performances by Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim, Josh Richards, and others to follow in the coming weeks.

Meta has been relatively hesitant to develop its own generative AI chatbot since the release of ChatGPT last November, at least when compared to competitors such as Google and Microsoft.
Instead, Meta has concentrated on the LLaMA platform, an open-source large language model built for commercial use, as well as a number of AI-enhanced, multimodal products.
