Kevin Hart asks Dwayne Johnson why, given what he sees as a good opening and “an appetite from your fan base,” Black Adam didn’t receive a sequel in a new clip from his Peacock show Hart to Heart.
In Dwayne’s response, “I think Black Adam became involved in a vortex of new leadership,” Johnson responds, adding that it “got knocked down a bit” due to Covid-related shutdowns. Johnson then returned to leadership issues.

“It was so many changes in authority. Anytime you have a firm, a publicly-traded business, and you have all those leadership changes, you have people coming in that artistically, fiscally, are going to make judgments that you may not agree with, philosophically.”
Johnson took to social media in December to reveal that he had discussed with DC Studios co-head James Gunn that Black Adam will not be included in the first phase of DC’s new plans.
“However, DC and Seven Bucks agreed to keep up exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters,” Johnson explained.
He then stated emphatically, “These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens.”
This came after the much-debated decision by then-new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to abandon the nearly-completed Batgirl picture, which had cost $60 million to $70 million.

After some time has passed, Johnson informs Hart, “I think Black Adam is one of those movies that got caught in that web of new leadership.
” And that, I believe, will always be one of the major mysteries, not only for me and us on our end but also across our business.” Johnson appears to be content that he kept the primary focus the main thing, even if the studio did not.
