This week, Bratz revealed that it had worked on a brand-new line of dolls with none other than Kylie Jenner.
The figures, which are decked out in “Bratzified looks and accessories,” are exact replicas of some of Kylie Jenner’s most iconic recent costumes, including those she wore to the 2019 and 2022 Met Galas, the 2022 Mugler Exhibition, and the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards.

In a press statement, Kylie stated: “I’ve loved Bratz since I was a kid, and I’ve always wanted my own Bratz doll. Together with the Bratz team, I have enjoyed every step of the process this past year as we have made these dolls. I’m excited that they’re here.
Fans, however, were quick to criticize the new Bratz partnership, asking why the dolls’ skin tones were so different from Kylie’s, even though they were made to appear just like her.
In this context, Kylie, who is entirely white, and her family have long been accused of Blackfishing, which is the deliberate attempt by a non-Black person to appear Black.
Kylie has previously been under fire for using social media filters to significantly darken the appearance of her skin tone, and over the years, her sisters have also come under fire for doing the same thing.
Given this, several admirers immediately criticized the fact that Kylie Jenner’s Bratz dolls are a few shades darker than she is and called her out on social media

Fans expected a partnership with a lady of color because Bratz is largely regarded as a corporation established “of the likeness of Black and Latina women,” making Kylie dolls all the more disappointing.
Several people expressed their dissatisfaction with Bratz’s decision to work with a woman who has often been accused of “imitating Black culture” over the years, which ultimately led to a discussion about the Kardashian/Jenners’ history of Blackfishing.
