Donald Trump and his aide, Walt Nauta, have requested a delay of the criminal trial in the Mar-a-Lago documents case.
Prosecutors had previously asked District Judge Aileen Gun for a deferral until December 11, from an initial date of August 14, to give the two sides additional opportunity to plan.
However, in yesterday’s documentation, Mr. Trump’s legal counselors said a December preliminary date would deny them the sensible opportunity to prepare. They portrayed the public authority’s mentioned plan as “unrealistic.”
The attorneys stated, “The court should therefore withdraw the current order setting trial and postpone any consideration of a new trial date,” adding that a continuance was required and appropriate.
Outside of business hours, a request for comment was made, but the US Justice Department did not immediately respond.
On June 13, Mr. Trump, the Republican front-runner for the nomination in 2024, pleaded not guilty in Miami to charges that he had lied to officials who tried to recover classified national security documents when he left office in 2021.
In the filing, Mr. Trump’s attorneys stated that a trial in December was untenable due to his presidential campaign’s logistical demands, the potentially large amount of evidence they might need to review, and other cases.
The report’s case will unfurl under a severe arrangement of rules endorsed by the Classified Information Procedures Act, which aims to protect classified evidence and manage the disclosure of such records.

In his request for a four-month extension of the trial on June 23, US Special Counsel Jack Smith had anticipated that Mr. Trump’s side would oppose the proposed prosecution schedule.
Mr. Nauta, Mr. Trump’s aide, pleaded not guilty last week in a Miami federal courthouse to charges that he had helped Mr. Trump hide top-secret documents taken when he left the White House.
