Predictably, Trump praised the Supreme Court’s decision that colleges and universities cannot consider race when making admissions decisions.

He called the decision an “amazing” result that will “keep [the United States] competitive with the rest of the world.”

KEY FACTS
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “This is a great day for America,” adding, “We’re going back to all merit-based—and that’s the way it should be!”

Hours after the conservative-majority court ruled that Harvard University’s and the University of North Carolina’s admissions policies that took race into account violated the Equal Protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, Trump made the remarks.

Trump’s 2024 GOP official contenders followed him in commending the choice: In an interview with Fox News, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott stated that the Supreme Court had “correctly upheld the Constitution and ended discrimination.” Former Vice President Mike Pence referred to affirmative action as an “egregious violation of civil and constitutional rights.”

DIGRESSION
Trump recently acknowledged himself for the court’s upsetting of the sacred right to early termination when it struck down Roe v. Swim, which is generally seen as the court’s most dubious decision in late history. The three justices that Trump had appointed—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett—tipped the court’s power balance in favor of conservatism.

“Today’s decision, which is the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation, along with other decisions that have been announced recently, were only made possible because I delivered everything as promised,” he boasted in a statement on June 24 last year, the day the ruling was issued.

KEY BACKGROUND
The High Court controlled Thursday for the Understudies for Fair Confirmations, which contended that Harvard and UNC’s confirmations strategies disregarded the Fourteenth Amendment and prompted a lower acknowledgment rate among white and Asian-American understudies.

The court administered 6-3 against UNC’s strategy, with liberal Judges Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Earthy colored Jackson disagreeing, and 6-2 for Harvard’s situation, from which Jackson recused herself.

The court determined that the schools had violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, which states that “race may never be used as a ‘negative’” and “may not operate as a stereotype” by incorporating race into their admissions decisions without adequate justification.

Harvard and UNC argued that black and Hispanic students would be less likely to enroll if affirmative action were abolished, pointing out that their policies were in line with previous decisions upholding it.
