The White House confirmed in a press release that President Joe Biden called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.
They had a conversation after a turbulent weekend in Russia that nearly resulted in a civil war.

Zelensky tweeted, “We discussed the course of hostilities and the processes taking place in Russia. Russia must be put under pressure by the world until the international order is restored.”
In addition, Zelensky expressed gratitude to Biden for his “unflagging support” of Ukraine during its ongoing conflict with Russia under Vladimir Putin. Zelensky stated that the fighter jet coalition’s support to “protect our skies” was one component of that support.
He stated, “We discussed further expansion of defense cooperation, focusing on long-range weapons.”
The White House claimed that Biden and Zelenskyy discussed “recent events” in Russia and reiterated “unwavering U.S. support” for Ukraine.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, a former ally of Putin, led the mercenary group known as the Wagner Group over the weekend. Prigozhin claimed that the Russian military had fired on his men. Prigozhin promised a “march of justice” in Moscow, and the group claimed to have taken control of important military facilities in Russia.

But by Saturday night, Prigozhin had reduced his forces and agreed to leave Russia if the Kremlin decided to drop any criminal charges against him for the attempted coup.
Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude in a tweet following his conversation with Biden, declaring that the United States would “stand side by side with Ukraine until the full liberation of all our territories within internationally recognized borders.”
