This weekend, Republican presidential candidates will contend for a coveted position as the top replacement for Trump in the 2024 campaign.

Republican candidates Mike Pence, Vivek Ramaswamy, Asa Hutchinson, Francis Suarez, Tim Scott, Chris Christie, and Ron DeSantis will speak on Friday at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Washington, D.C. conference. The organization describes its event as “the largest public policy gathering of conservative and Christian activists in the nation.”

On Saturday, Nikki Haley speaks at the religious conservative convention.

Despite two indictments and questions about his appeal to independent voters, Trump still leads Republican polls. He will deliver the “keynote address” at Saturday’s conference’s closing dinner.

In statements announcing the speakers, the organization stated, “The purpose of the conference is to empower conservative activists to fight for their values at the polls.”

The high-profile gathering of candidates occurs when the GOP race is becoming more competitive; Will Hurd, a former congressman from Texas, declared his candidacy on Thursday.

Religious voters are expected to play a significant role in Republican delegate contests this year, particularly the early ones in Iowa and South Carolina.

A half-year prior to the start of the primaries, Republican presidential candidates frequently make stops at the Faith and Freedom Coalition.

The efforts to end abortion a year after the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade and this week’s plea bargain involving presidential son Hunter Biden are expected to be this year’s topics.

The candidates’ agendas also include many social issues, like transgender policies and religious liberty rights.

It is unknown how much the other candidates will talk about another major issue in the campaign: Trump.

As the campaign progresses, the former president faces two criminal trials in the coming months, one in Florida and one in New York.

A federal grand jury in Florida charged Trump with obstructing justice for storing classified documents. A New York state grand jury accused him of fabricating business records as part of a hush-money scheme.

In addition, Trump is still the subject of investigations in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., concerning his efforts to avenge his defeat in the election to President Joe Biden.
