During his trip through Silicon Valley for a fundraiser, President Joe Biden visited the hills of Los Gatos, dotted with mansions.

At around 2 p.m., around 20 people stood on the side of the road to catch a glimpse of Biden’s motorcade as it sped down Cypress Way and up the hill toward an event hosted by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Microsoft Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott and his wife, Shannon Hunt-Scott.

A group of five women was waving American flags. One of them carried a Biden sign from his 2020 campaign with a “4” in place of the second zero.

“We all support Joe, so we all want to come show him some support from our little town,” said Tina Giusto, a longtime Los Gatos resident. “It’s an honor to have the president in Los Gatos.”

Lola Feldman, a Los Gatos resident, added, “It’s not every day the president drives past your house.”

Sofie Kakes, a first-grader, said she was excited to see the president as she waited with her family to watch Biden’s motorcade.

Sofie stated, “I really want to meet him because I want to be a president too.”

Watching the motorcade, a group of supporters of Donald Trump also congregated at the corner of Cypress Way and Loma Alta Avenue. “My dog is smarter than Biden” was written on one sign.

Despite his federal indictment for storing classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump is the GOP’s front-runner and, according to Santa Clara County Democratic Party chairman Bill James, has raised more than $6 million since his indictment.

Wes Toy, a supporter of Biden and a longtime resident of Los Gatos joined the crowd of spectators.

Toy stated, “It’s wonderful that he chose a supporter who lives close by,” he added, “I get to cheer him on when he gets to the house on Aztec Ridge.”

Biden drove up the peninsula to Atherton after the fundraiser in Los Gatos, where he attended a fundraiser hosted by venture capitalist Steve Westly and his wife, Anita Yu. According to an email invitation obtained by the Bay Area News Group, the price of tickets for the reception at their home started at $6,600.

On Tuesday, Biden went to a third reception in Marin County. He was accompanied by eight investors and entrepreneurs in technology, climate change, and private equity there. Among them were Mark Robinson, Steve Silbertein, Dan Kalafatas, and Hadley Mullin.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also went on a fundraising trip through California this week. He went to a breakfast roundtable fundraiser at a country club in Sacramento and then to a private fundraiser in Woodside in the Bay Area.

Biden announced on Monday that the federal government would provide climate programs with $643 million, of which $67 million will come from the US Department of Energy to assist California in upgrading its power grid to reduce the risk of wildfires.

The “Climate Resilience Regional Challenge,” a package that Congress approved as part of Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act last year, consists of the remaining $575 million. It will be used in a brand-new federal program that gives grants to states and cities to help them build climate resilience.
