Prince Harry Is Making Sure His Grandmother, Queen Elizabeth Is Fine

“She had plenty of messages for Team UK, which I have already passed on to most of them. So it was great to see her. I’m sure she would love to be here if she could,”

Prince Harry may no longer reside in the United Kingdom, but he is still responsible for making sure his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II is fine.

“I’m just making sure that she’s, you know, protected and got the right people around her,” he told Hoda Kotb in a preview from their “Today” sit-down that airs on Wednesday.

The interview took place at the Invictus Games in 2022, which Prince Harry attended with Meghan Markle. Meanwhile, prior to the event, Harry and Meghan met with the Queen and Prince Charles, marking their first all-together reunion in over two years.

“Being with her, it was great. It was just so nice to see her, you know?” Harry recalled.

After testing positive for COVID-19 in February, Queen Elizabeth, who turns 96 on Thursday, sparked international concern. She has avoided most public appearances since then, including this weekend’s Easter celebrations.

But, according to Harry, she’s doing well and was upbeat during their conversation. “She’s on great form, and she’s always got a great sense of humor with me,” the redhead Prince shared, chuckling when Kotb noted that the Queen “always says” Harry makes her laugh.

“Did you do it [make her laugh] again?” asked Kobt, to which Harry replied, “Yeah, I did! Both Meghan and I had tea with her. So it was really nice to catch up with her.”

In the midst of feuds with the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relocated to California in March 2020 and resigned from their royal duties the following year. They currently reside in Santa Barbara with their two children, Archie, two, and Lilibet, ten months.

“You know, home for me now is, you know, for the time being, it’s in the states,” he told Kotb, 57.

Prince Harry said he and Markle have “a great community up in Santa Barbara” where they live.

“And it feels that way as well. We’ve been welcomed with open arms, and it’s got such a great community up in Santa Barbara.”

One day earlier, Prince Harry told the BBC that his conversation with Queen Elizabeth was about his trip to the Netherlands and the Invictus Games in 2022.

“She had plenty of messages for Team UK, which I have already passed on to most of them. So it was great to see her. I’m sure she would love to be here if she could,” he told the outlet.

While the Duke of Sussex returned home last summer for the unveiling of a Princess Diana memorial, it was Markle’s first trip to the UK since the couple’s relocation.

The couple came under fire last month for failing to attend the memorial service for his grandfather, Prince Philip, who died in April at the age of 99, amid ongoing feuds with the royal family.

Now, many people are hoping that the couple’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, as well as their presence at the Invictus Games, will help them regain public favor across the pond.
