Alec Baldwin “discharged” a prop gun on his latest movie set, killing one crew member and injuring the director, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Police said the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, and the film’s director, Joel Souza, were shot when Baldwin “discharged” a prop firearm on the set of Rust on Thursday, Oct. 21.

Hutchins, 42, was transported to Albuquerque, New Mexico’s University of New Mexico Hospital via helicopter shortly after the occurrence, where she died. Souza, also 42, underwent treatment for his injuries at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical facility, where he was brought via ambulance.

“Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set of the western Rust, October 21, 2021, when a 911 caller reported a shooting on the set,” police said, per Deadline. The outlet also reports that the investigation is open and active and that no charges have been filed.

On Thursday morning, Baldwin shared a photo from the set of himself in an old Western outfit. “Back to in person at the office,” wrote the Saturday Night Live alum, who carried a leather jacket and cowboy hat. “Blimey…it’s exhausting.”

In the film, the character of the 63-year-old plays Harland Rust, who helps his teenage grandson go on the run after he’s sentenced to hanging for the accidental killing of a Kansas rancher. Alec is both starring in and producing the film.

According to Deadline, the film is about an “infamous Western Outlaw” named Harland Rust, played by Baldwin. “When his estranged 13-year-old grandson Lucas (Noon) is convicted of an accidental murder and sentenced to hang, Rust travels to Kansas to break him out of prison,” per the outlet.

Hutchins was a cinematographer, who recently worked on A Luv Tale: The Series, The Mad Hatter, Blindfire, Archenemy and more. Two days ago, she shared a video of herself riding horses on set, writing, “One of the perks of shooting a western is you get to ride horses on your day off.” She described herself as a “Restless Dreamer” and “Adrenaline junkie” in her Instagram bio.
