President Trump has continued to slam Attorney General Bill Barr for keeping Hunter Biden’s probe a secrete, saying he should have stepped up to inform the country that Joe Biden’s son, had been under investigation during the 2020 presidential campaign.
“Joe Biden lied on the debate stage he said there’s nothing happening, nothing happening, and Bill Barr should have stepped up,” the president said during an interview on “Fox & Friends” that played on Sunday.
Fox News reporter Brian Kilmeade, then said if Barr had spoken out during the election he would have been likened to former FBI Director James Comey who announced that the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server was reopened days before the 2016 presidential election.
“All he had to do is say an investigation is going on. And by the way, I don’t want to say anything bad happened to Hunter Biden. Whatever it is, it is the facts, but I don’t want to say anything bad happened to Hunter Biden. And I purposely stay out of it.
“But when you affect an election … when they are saying things, making statements and the press is purposely not reporting it, Bill Barr, I believe, not believe I know, had an obligation to set the record straight,” the president said.
The president suggested that Barr should have acted like then-special counsel Robert Mueller, who was heading the Russia probe and disputed a 2019 BuzzFeed report that Trump directed his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress.
“But Bob Mueller stood up and he interjected that this article was false. Bill Barr should have done the same,” Trump said.
The two investigations into Hunter Biden and Barr’s efforts to keep them out of the public eye were exposed last week, as Barr never also disclosed the information to the congressional Republicans.
