Barack Obama’s Director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Brennan has outrightly condemned the killing of an Iranian scientist suspected to be connected to Tehran’s nuclear program Friday, describing it as “criminal” and “highly reckless.”

So far there haven’t been enough details on the attack, but local news outlets have reported that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed after a truck full of explosives concealed, by a pile of wood pulled alongside the scientist’s sedan before detonating in the town of Absard, located just east of Tehran.
“This was a criminal act & highly reckless. It risks lethal retaliation & a new round of regional conflict,” John Brennan wrote on Twitter Friday afternoon.
Iran’s foreign minister claimed that the attack on Fakhrizadeh had “serious indications” that Israel was involved in the assassination but did not provide any proof to back up the claim – though there are expected to be international repercussions.
Fakhrizadeh’s assassination follows months after Gen. Qassem Soleimani was targeted by the US military in a drone strike, killing one of Iran’s topic officials and pushing U.S.-Iran relations to the brink after Iran vowed retaliation.
“Iranian leaders would be wise to wait for the return of responsible American leadership on the global stage & to resist the urge to respond against perceived culprits,” Brennan wrote in another tweet urging Iranian officials to address the issue in another US administration.

President Trump has remained silent… even when the world expects him to comment. He only retweeted a message by Israeli journalist Yossi Melman who said the killing of the Iranian nuclear scientist was “a major psychological and professional blow for Iran.”
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has been assassinated in Damavand, east of Tehran according to reports in Iran. He was head of Iran’s secret military program and wanted for many years by Mossad. His death is a major psychological and professional blow for Iran.

So far, no one or group of persons have claimed responsibility for the death of Fakhruzadeh, who passed on in the hospital, but Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said it was an act of “state terror.”
