Cardi B only needs to think of whatever concept of hairstyle to carry at a time and then push it to superstar hairstylist Tokyo Stylez to see that it’s physically achieved exactly as conceived.
The artist made a wig on the spot for the “I Like It” rapper’s Medusa Halloween costume in October, scouting to get the materials at Target and Home Depot after already arriving on set. “If I told you this, you probably would not believe me,” Tokyo, who goes by the name Mia Love revealed to reporters.
Cardi B’s stylist, Kollin Carter, had prepared a headpiece for the shoot and planned to add in the snakes after using CGI. But all of that had to change immediately Cardi arrived at the set.

Tokyo said, “I get to set and I’m like, ‘Oh, I got an easy day today, all I have to do is put a skull cap on,’”
But it wasn’t that easy. “We get there and Cardi is like, ‘I don’t want CGI, I don’t want a headpiece, I want my hair to be made into snakes.’ Mind you, I didn’t bring nothing.’ I’m like, ‘Cardi, we have to start shooting in two hours,’ and she’s like, ‘I don’t care, the party doesn’t start until I’m ready.’”
Immediately the stylist went to Target to buy artificial snakes and to Home Depot to get the wire and hot glue guns so the custom Medusa look can be crafted, a move that delayed the photoshoot for about six to eight hours. The team finished by 6 am the following morning.
Tokyo admitted that working with the “WAP” hitmaker is an adventure saying, “Cardi keeps me on my toes with the hair and fashion”.

The “Queen of Stylez,” is showing fans in her new Snap Original show a glimpse at what it’s like working with her superstars like Kylie Jenner, Naomi Campbell, Karrueche Tran and Paris Hilton.
In the eight-episode docuseries, you will find not only Tokyo’s creative styles but also the amazing story of her life, how she transitioned and journey from Omaha to Atlanta to DC and then to Los Angeles chasing her all-time dream of becoming a proffessional celebrity hairstylist.
Tokyo apparently named Kylie Jenner as one of her most discerning clients, saying, “She knows what she likes and what works for her and what doesn’t work for her. There have been times when I’ve brought things to her and she’s like, ‘No, this just doesn’t look good on me.’ She knows her face. She’s a beauty guru.”
Tokyo also says her most detail-oriented former client should have been Naomi Campbell, “She’s very particular about her middle-part, bone-straight, sleek look. She’d be like, ‘My part is crooked! It has to be perfect, that’s her look”.
The superstar hairstylist noted that when it comes to “extreme” hair creations, “Cardi’s the one who can really rock it. Sometimes you can put something on somebody and it wears them, it’s not that with her. She wears it, and wears it very well”.
“Like the pink heart-shaped pigtails Cardi debuted in August was a project that took four or five hours, and that was filmed for Queen of Stylez and the chain-link ponytail the rapper wears in her “WAP” music video,” Tokyo recalled.
“The chains in ‘WAP’ will forever go down in history. People are still tagging me on Instagram every day with their recreations,” she joked.
Tokyo’s “Queen of Stylez” premieres on Snapchat Saturday, November 21, with new episodes dropping daily, the show will feature famous faces like Cardi, Hilton and Tran along with Mulatto, Flo Milli, De’Arra, Kash Doll and more.
