Zendaya has made history by being the youngest star to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in HBO’s ‘Euphoria’.
The 2020 Emmy Awards took place on Septemeber 20th with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the virtual show. Celebrities had to take part in the event from home due to the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic.
Zendaya was a first-time Emmy Award nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and she was able to top Jennifer Aniston (‘The Morning Show’), Olivia Colman (‘The Crown’), Laura Linney (‘Ozark’), Jodie Comer, and her co-star Sandra Oh (‘Killing Eve’) in the category.
When she was announced as the winner of the award she thanked her family, team, and ‘Euphoria’ creator Sam Levinson.
Addressing Sam, Zendaya said: “I appreciate you so much, you’re my family, I’m so grateful for Rue. I’m so grateful that you trusted me with your story.”
“I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating.” – She added.
Zendaya went on to say: “I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people.
“I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you.” – The actress added.
Zendaya won the award for her portrayal of a teenage drug addict named Rue Bennet on the HBO high school drama. Sam Levinson based the series on his own battle with drug addiction.
In other news, Zendaya has also been voted as the number one modern fashion icon by Gen-Z in the UK.
According to research by Laybuy, The ‘Euphoria’ star topped the list ahead of Kylie Jenner and Billie Elish who came in joint second place.
Zendaya has been making a statement for years with her style, she even looked dazzling at the recent Emmy Awards, so it’s not a shock that she has topped the style list for the youth of today.
