The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to address the “sheer might” of the Union ahead of a panic visit to the north of the border after rising support for Scottish independence following claims of poor representation.

Mr Johnson will visit Scotland tomorrow to show support as he has urged his cabinet to always visit the country amid claims that they are lacking representation. This will be the first time the UK Prime Minister visits Scotland since the general election in December and there are no plans to visit Nicola Sturgeon.

While on the visit, Boris Johnson will meet with businesses that have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, those working in green energy, as well as the military personnel to appreciate their efforts in responding to the virus.

The prime minister is also expected to pledge £50 million for Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles to develop the economy of the islands as part of a growth plan.

“When I stood on the steps of Downing Street one year ago, I pledged to be a Prime Minister for every corner of the United Kingdom. Whether you are from East Kilbride or Dumfries, Motherwell or Paisley, I promised to level up across Britain and close the opportunity gap.

“The last six months have shown exactly why the historic and heartfelt bond that ties the four nations of our country together is so important and the sheer might of our Union has been proven once again,” Mr Johnson said hours before the visit.

Whitehall sources had revealed that the UK government saw the increased support for Scottish independence with the latest survey showing that 54 per cent of respondents want to see Scotland move away from the UK.

Lord McInnes of Kilwinning, the Scottish Tories director presented polling results which revealed the SNP was on a move to achieve a majority government in next year’s Holyrood election which the cabinet was concerned about.

“The UK Treasury stepped in to save the jobs of a third of Scotland’s entire workforce and kept the wolves at bay for tens of thousands of Scottish businesses. More than ever, this shows what we can achieve when we stand together, as one United Kingdom,” the UK PM added.

SNP Deputy Leader Keith Brown fired back with claims that the only reason Mr Johnson was visiting Scotland was that he is in “full-blown panic mode amid rising support for independence.”

“It is beyond belief that at a time when the economy is being hit hard by coronavirus he is preparing to inflict further job losses by walking out of talks with the EU in less than six months – even if no trade deal has been agreed.

“Just this week, Boris Johnson’s Scottish Tories queued up to block any attempt to protect our NHS from a post-Brexit trade deal with Donald Trump. Just like his notorious Brexit referendum pledge for £350m a week for the NHS, Boris Johnson has shown that his promises are not worth the paper they are written on.

“It’s never been clearer that decisions about Scotland should be taken by the people who live here – not an out of touch Tory Westminster government,” he added.
