We did not see this coming as the coronavirus pandemic has put so much that we have been looking forward to on hold, Strictly Come Dancing 2020 is showing us flames as they break tradition and have same-sex pairings to avoid a predictable line-up.

The landmark change comes after rival show Dancing On Ice made history with an all-male pairing of Ian ‘H’ Watkins and professional Matt Evers performing together this year.

Though this will not be the first same-sex couple in the competition in its 16-year history, back in 2019 Strictly Come Dancing featured a same-sex performance from Johannes and fellow pro Graziano Di Prima. The routine got 189 complaints by viewers, with some calling it offensive.

2020 is a year that has been calling for change, Katya Jones expressed keen interest in being the female pro in the running for a two-women coupling on Strictly Come Dancing.

A source from The Sun spoke about this year’s Strictly Come Dancing show saying, “This is another intriguing twist in the journey. Everyone assumed producers would simply pair gay pro Johannes Radebe with a male celebrity but they felt that was too obvious.”

“Then there was a suggestion they would opt to put two women together. But nobody expected having pairings of both genders,” the source added.

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 will have fierce competition this year as fewer competitors will be allowed on the show due to Covid-19.
