Jennifer Hudson performed at the 2020 BET Awards and recently released the official trailer for ‘Respect’, which features Jennifer playing Aretha Franklin.
There seemed to be no challenges with the 2020 BET Awards being performed virtually this year as many stars took part and performed in the two-hour-long awards event. Jennifer Hudson was one of these stars singing an Aretha Franklin song, ‘Young, Gifted & Black’.

Jennifers’ beautiful performance at the BET Awards along with the trailer proved that she is able to channel Aretha Franklin perfectly with her stunning voice.
‘Respect’ is a biopic that has Jennifer Hudson following the story of Aretha Franklin from her early days as a gospel singer in Detroit, Michigan to ultimately becoming the ‘Queen of Soul’, the story also delves into the late stars’ work as a civil rights activist.
The film includes stars like Forest Whitaker as Aretha’s father, Marlon Wayans as Aretha’s first husband Ted White, Mary J. Blige as singer Dinah Washington, and Gilbert Glenn Brown as Martin Luther King Jr.
Aretha Franklin started her career in 1966 after she signed to Atlantic Records, she earned 17 Grammy awards and many other accolades. The film comes two years after the ‘Queen of Soul’ passed following her battle with cancer.
Some of the greatest hits released during the time of Aretha Franklin include ‘Chain of Fools’, ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’, which was later covered by Whitney Houston, and a George Michael collaboration, ‘I Knew You Were Waiting’, along with countless others.
The film, which is now set for release on Christmas Day 2020, will definitely add on to the career milestone of Jennifer Hudson, as many are excited about its release.
