Strictly Come Dancing is not cancelled but this year the series will be made shorter than usual amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Many have been wondering whether or not the popular BBC ballroom show would go ahead this September during the pandemic, but it has now been officially confirmed that the show will return to screens, but with major changes as Britain emerges from its lockdown.

The show has been pushed to start in October with the choreographers isolated together in a hotel for two weeks from the end of July to practice and pre-record their group dances.

Stars will be placed in ‘couple bubbles’ with a new routine that may include weekly coronavirus tests and daily temperature checks, along with the hair and make-up artist working in suitable PPE kits.

The decision of continuing Strictly Come Dancing came a day after it was revealed that BBC chiefs had cancelled The Apprentice for this year because lockdown measures made it impossible to film.

On the topic of Strictly Come Dancing, a BBC spokesman said, “To ensure we deliver the high standards audiences know and love, and in light of ongoing considerations around Covid-19, this year’s series of Strictly will have a slightly shorter run than usual.

“The safety of our cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us,” the BBC spokesman added.

Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse were crowned Strictly Come Dancing champions in 2019. This year meant to see same-sex couples feature on the upcoming series after rival show Dancing On Ice made history with an all-male pairing, but it may be delayed till next year.

This is definitely something to look forward to, but also in hopes that the correct measures are put in place to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.
