The new movie follows 2004’s ‘The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie’ and 2015’s ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water’, making it the third film to be based on the successful animated TV series that debuted on Nickelodeon back in 1999.
Many things have been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, this animated feature was due to be released on May 22nd but was pushed back to August 7th, but on Monday Paramount and Nickelodeon announced that they will not be releasing the film in theatres at all.
‘The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run’ will be made available for digital rental in early 2021 before streaming on subscription services CBS All Access.
It’s also exciting to know that ‘Sponge on the Run’ features the voice talents of Keanu Reeves, Snoop Dogg, and Awkwafina along with the regular Spongebob crew of Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Bill Fagerbakke, and Rodger Bumpass.
The movie is set on Spongebob Squarepants beloved snail Gary being ‘snail-napped’ and so SpongeBob and Patrick Star then leave Bikini Bottom and go to the Lost City Of Atlantic City to try and rescue Gary.
