A concern that after the lifting of the eviction ban, most tenants could be left homeless with no access to any statutory representation was raised.

Since the beginning of March landlords in the UK were restricted from making any eviction proceedings by the government. The regulation was released to protect rent payers who were now unemployed from facing eviction.

The eviction ban is scheduled to be lifted on the 25thof June. The courts will be able to resume existing reclamation hearings as well as begin new cases again by the end of June.

However, the documents which were revealed by the Law Gazette have shown that a number of courts have considered to run hearings.

The Brentford Country Court in West London issued a letter with details of arrangements. The letter stated that its “present thinking” was holding possession hearings by telephone or Skype.

The housing secretary of Labour`s shadow, Thangam Debbonaires said: “When the temporary ban ends in a month’s time there will be people who are at immediate risk of evictions as a result of the government’s failure to act to ensure people have enough income to pay their rent.

“The government must also consider Labour’s proposal for a temporary lifting of the laws on arrears as a mandatory grounds for eviction and to scrap the no-fault evictions proceedings, to help protect people from homelessness.”
