Joanna Johnson has teamed up with Anonymous Content to produce a four-part rom-com scripted series for Freeform called ‘Love in the Time of Corona’, which will premiere in August.
The new Freeform series ‘Love in the Time of Corona’ will give us different perspectives of people who are on the search for ‘love, sex, and connection during this time of social distancing’. This isn’t the first corona-themed series and definitely will not be the last.
Freeform is one of many programmers that have announced their plans to release a coronavirus-themed series. Jenji Kohan is working on an anthology series for Netflix called ‘Social Distance’, and ITV has Jeff Pope with a British series called ‘Isolation Stories’.
Joanna Johnson has previously co-created The Fosters and Good Trouble and is now looking forward to working with Anonymous Content on this new series for Freeform.
Freeform Executive Vice President, Programming and Development Lauren Corrao told Deadline that, “This is the perfect show for a generation who is learning to love and be loved in a time when the entire world is telling them to stay six feet apart.
Although the constraints have been difficult during this time, immense creativity has flourished and we could not be more grateful that Joanna brought this series to Freeform.”
Not everyone is as excited by this new series from Freeform, as they feel there are more important matters at hand than creating a series themed with coronavirus. Here’s what some had to say on Twitter –
We are all trying to figure out how to deal with life during this pandemic that we are all facing together, so let the creatives like Joanna and Anonymous Content do what they do best. Whether or not it is entertaining will be left up to the response of their audience.
Sometimes we need that bit of lighthearted entertainment to remind us that we’re not alone.
