A 13-year-old girl has been charged with murder following the discovery of a woman’s body at a house in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Authorities have also charged the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, with arson with intent to endanger life.
Police confirmed that while formal identification is still pending, the victim is believed to be 43-year-old mother-of-three Marta Bednarczyk. A forensic post-mortem examination determined that her preliminary cause of death was due to sharp force injuries.
Emergency Services Called to House Fire
The tragic incident came to light when emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a property on Newcomen Road.
Firefighters and police arrived on the scene in the early hours of Monday morning, where they discovered Ms. Bednarczyk’s body inside the home. Paramedics pronounced her dead shortly after 3 a.m.
Authorities have since urged residents to avoid the immediate area while investigations continue.
Court Appearance and Police Statement
The 13-year-old suspect is set to appear before Northampton Magistrates’ Court at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell expressed gratitude to the officers working tirelessly on the case, stating, “This evening, we have formally charged a 13-year-old Wellingborough girl with murder and arson. She will appear before Northampton Magistrates’ Court at 10 a.m. tomorrow.”

He extended his sympathies to the victim’s loved ones, saying, “Our thoughts are with Marta’s family, who have been fully cooperative during what has been an incredibly difficult and devastating time for them.”
