Thomas Carlyle Ford, 60, confirmed “with great sadness” the death of his husband of seven years, Richard Buckley, on September 19 at the age of 72. “Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles with Tom and their son, Jack, by his side”, a source confirmed. ” He died of natural causes after a prolonged illness,” the source further revealed but did not specify what illness Richard had been suffering from.
The couple had been together for almost thirty years after meeting in an elevator at a fashion show in 1986 which led to their marriage in 2014. “Our eyes locked and within a month we were living together,” Tom gushed in 2016. He also described their relationship as “love at first sight,” and said he had a hunch that he would spend the rest of his life with Richard.
The fashion editor, Richard, culminated his career in 1979 at New York Magazine. He further went on to work with publications like Vanity Fair, Women’s Wear Daily, Mirabella, and Italian Vogue before becoming the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Hommes International in 1999.
Throughout their lengthy relationship, the couple lived in New York, Italy, Paris and London, but at the time of Richard’s death, the family split their time in New York, Los Angeles, Santa Fe and London.
