European Union’s Chief Brexit Negotiator Michel Barnier has mocked Britain and issued a serious warning to the existing European Union members that Brexit has shown the danger of exiting the trading bloc.
Barnier who spoke from at European Movement Ireland’s European of the Year Award ceremony said Brexit did not bring the end of the European Union as people were predicting but rather it strengthened the unity within the union.
“Contrary to what many predicted at the time of the 2016 Brexit referendum, Brexit did not trigger the end of the European Union but the strengthening of its unity. Today Brexit has exposed the consequences of leaving the EU for all to see,” he said.
The European Movement Ireland handed Michel Barnier European of the Year Award. The historic award marked the first time the award is going to a non-Irish-citizen.

“A fantastic recipient who says he feels a ‘little bit Irish’. As a bonus, he is giving a master class in the art of negotiating – clear objectives, steady steps and leave emotions outside.”
A handle Leave EU tweeted, “The EU are determined to stop Britain enjoying the advantages of Brexit, they still can’t accept we’re now a free, sovereign nation!”
Meanwhile, Irish MEP Frances Fitzgerald wrote, “Congratulations to @MichelBarnier who has just been awarded the ‘European of the Year’ by @emireland.
“An extremely worthy winner-Ireland & Europe owe @MichelBarnier a great deal. Grateful for his steadfastness, patience, skill and care for Ireland throughout his career.”
