Justin Bieber is opening up about his life and this time he’s pouring his heart out on in his new 10-part YouTube series, Justin Bieber: Seasons.
If you’ve been following the star’s documentary then you’d know that Justin Bieber has let us on some of the creative processes in his life that have arisen from particularly dark moments and tough times.
We further got to see and know more about his intimate relationship with his wife Hailey Bieber, and what makes their relationship so special.
Justin had not talked about more serious issues that had really affected his life. In Part Five of the series the pop star freely talks about how he battled with drugs and other health scares which hit him badly.
The 25-year-old pop star said that he started smoking weed when he was just 13-years-old and soon depended on it.
Marijuana wasn’t the only drug that Bieber was consuming he also started taking “lean” (a narcotic substance long prevalent in the rap and hip-hop communities) before taking pills, doing Molly, and even trying mushrooms.
“The first time I smoked weed was in my backyard here — got super-stoned,” Bieber said via voice-over. And then I realized I liked weed a lot. That’s when my desire to smoke weed started, and then I started smoking weed for a while.”
“I think when you take somebody very, very young and they get horrible, crazy crippling anxiety and it goes undiagnosed and you don’t know what it is you are feeling, you start to self-medicate because it makes you feel better. Just helping not to feel anything.
“I started valuing the wrong things in this business because there were things dangling in front of me. I was a ‘good kid,’ but the truth is, I never had the tools.
“My parents never gave me those tools to be a good team player. People don’t know how serious it got. It was legit, crazy scary.
“I basically said to myself, ‘God, if you are real, you get me through this season of stopping these pills and stuff, and if you do, I’ll do the rest of the work.
“But I never did the actual work. I got off the pills but never went to the root of everything so I just circled back around which most people do.”
Dealing with tossing out his pills and quitting weed, Justin told us how he now uses an oxygen chamber better cope with his anxiety.
Bieber also confessed that he reached a point where he felt that he was “dying,” and his security team would check on him nightly to check his pulse.
“Mental health is so important to get on top of. If you have ADHD or something you don’t want to take medicine, I strongly believe in [the oxygen chamber].
“It’s not the only answer but it can help you. So, that’s my advice to you. But I have abused my body in the past and now I am just in the recovery process, trying to make sure I am taking care of my body and taking care of the vessel that God’s given me.”
Eventually, Bieber stopped abusing drugs and started taking antidepressants, which he said helped him “get out of bed in the morning.”
